Find Your Fit with the Trojan Fit Club

By Daniel Kehn February 8, 2024

While getting in the gym to start the new year is a pretty common goal, it can be hard to feel

comfortable in the gym environment. Whitmore Lake Community Recreation (WLCR) solves

that problem and builds community at the same time.

“Feedback that I hear from a lot of people is 'Well I just don't fit in there and I don't look like

those people and I'm just different,'” said Stacy Sloan, Coordinator of the Trojan Fit Club. At

WLCR everyone can fit in as we work on health and wellness for our community.

Trojan Fit Club at Whitmore Lake Community Recreation is building a welcoming community

for all by offering fitness options for everyone at class times that are convenient to a wide range

of schedules.

“It's a much more approachable place to do fitness,” Sloan said. “Regardless of your fitness

level, some people just feel more comfortable in a community program instead of in a boutique

fitness environment, or even a gym like Planet Fitness.”

Trojan Fit Club offers 6 a.m. classes for a quick drop-in workout before your day (with showers

and locker rooms available) and 6 p.m. classes for a fun destressing way to end your day for

example cardio drumming and yoga.

There is a wide range of courses and course levels with Circuit Training, Zumba, Yoga, Cardio

Walking, TRX, Cardio Resistance workouts and Cardio Drumming all available in the great

facilities throughout Whitmore Lake School District.

“We have beautiful facilities, " Sloan said. "Whitmore Lake High School is a premier facility with a beautiful indoor walking track, a beautiful pool that's been recently renovated, a very nice weight room, a multipurpose room and a very peaceful place to do yoga in the media center.”

The high school facility allows Trojan Fit to offer a sunrise walkers/runners class on the indoor or outdoor

track, weather-dependent, and classes in the pool like lap swimming, AquaFit or water walking.

The convenience cannot be stressed enough.

Located between Brighton and Ann Arbor just off US-23, Trojan Fit Club offers a great location and good pricing.

For the 4-month seasonal option, membership is $185 with senior, military, staff and student discounts at $165.

If you want to pay by month, membership is $50 with senior, military, staff and student discounts at

$45.

Sloan said Trojan Fit Club can cater to so many skill levels through its incredible, well-trained

and certified instructors who can modify their classes for every level and ability.

“If somebody comes to my yoga class and it is a class where you need to be on the floor, or you

need to stand up, but let's say you are in a wheelchair, I can teach the class for everybody else

who's there and also modify specifically for you without making you feel like you're different or

a distraction,” Sloan said. “We're able to do these modifications because the people that we hired

do have so many years of experience, that they know their formats really well. They know what

they're doing and why they're doing it.”

Sloan, who spent seven years running the health and wellness program for the City of Northville

Community Recreation when she lived there, is focused on building community through fitness

and spreading the word that fitness is for everyone regardless of skill level or experience.

“I really like that they are small class sizes and it is close to where I live,” Trojan Fit Club Member

Laura Schwennesen said.

At Trojan Fit Club, your first class is always free and you do not need to have a child in the

Whitmore Lake Public School System to be a member.
